Over 30 Years of Dispute Resolution Experience
James L. Knoll has successfully mediated thousands of cases and arbitrated
hundreds more. Since 1996, Jim has focused his practice exclusively
on alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration.
Jim is currently a member of the AAA Roster of Commercial Arbitrators Panel;
also he is listed in Best Lawyers under Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Jim spent the first 25 years of his career as a trial lawyer, actively involved
in construction cases, fidelity and surety law, insurance coverage issues, personal
injury and business law. From 1990-1995, prior to his exclusive focus on mediation
and arbitration, Jim was a managing partner in a firm with offices throughout
the West coast.
An Active Participant In His Community
Jim earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law
School and his Bachelor of Arts from Brown University. He is admitted
to practice in all state and federal courts in Oregon and Washington,
and state courts in Illinois and Alaska. He's been a board member of the
Oregon Law Institute, a provider of continuing education courses in Oregon
and an Adjunct Professor at Lewis and Clark Law School. Jim lives with his
family in Portland, Oregon where he is an active participant in the community.
Jim was appointed by the ABA Tort and Insurance Section as its Advisor to
the Drafting Committee for the Revised Uniform Arbitration Act for the National
Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. He is a member of the
Oregon State Bar. Jim has been an Editor of the Insurance Law CLE book as
well as the ADR CLE book. He also served on the Continuing Legal Education
Committee, Ad Hoc Committee on the Evidence Code, Federal Practice Committee,
Uniform State Laws Committee and the Pleading and Practice Committee.
